When we were children in Wales, we looked forward to snow. There is something magical about watching snowflakes fall softly from the sky and pile up on the ground. We were especially happy if it　snowed before Christmas, when we went out to sing carols. We would　throw snowballs at each other, and make snowmen, putting in a 　carrot for a nose and pebbles for the eyes.

●意訳

子供の頃ウェールズにいた私たちは雪を楽しみにしていました。雪が空から舞って地面に積もる様子は魅惑的でした。特にクリスマス前に雪が降ると嬉しくて、クリスマスキャロルを歌いに出かけ、雪合戦をしたり雪だるまにニンジンの鼻、小石の目をつけたりしました。

When I first came to live in the Shonan area of Japan in 1965, Japanese children would build yukidaruma. These days it hardly ever snows here any more. Even in "snow country", like the north of Japan, Greenland and Antarctica, there is less snow than before, and glaciers are shrinking, causing the sea level to rise.

●意訳

1965年に日本に来て湘南に住み始めましたが、日本の子供たちも雪だるまを作っていました。最近はこの辺りはほとんど雪が降らなくなりました。北日本の「雪国」やグリーンランドや南極大陸でさえ、以前より雪が減り氷河が小さくなって海面が上昇しています。
